My Part of Fringe

In 2025, I was lucky enough to be selected for a playwriting mentorship program called Playwrite Pals. Playwrite Pals is an initiative of Part of Things, a regional arts collective that promotes and advocates for regional arts programs.

Part of Things is always small and always regional focused. I owe a lot to Part of Things for fostering my interest and involvement in creative work.

One element of Playwrite Pals was a four-day trip to the Adelaide Fringe Festival called, appropriately, Part of Fringe. During these four days, we met with other writers, saw Fringe shows, toured venues, and shared our in progress scripts with a small audience.

We also had writing time.

Time allocated in the itinerary to write. What a glorious thing.

I decided I would not make this writing time ‘work time’. I didn’t want to put the pressure on this time. So, instead it allowed it to be free-form reflective low-stakes writing time. I allowed it to be anything. No goals, except to write what was on my mind, what I saw, and what I felt.

This little space on the internet is where those pieces live, a little snapshot of my time.

My Part of Fringe.
